In an interview for Out Magazine, in 2017, Emma Stone said that “If my male co-star, who has a higher quote than me but believes we are equal, takes a pay cut so that I can match him, that changes my quote in the future and changes my life." It underlined the importance of men helping narrow the gender pay gap. But it also shows men as allies. It's not about trying to become better, or undermine men, it's about trying to catch up to them. It took many years and several protests for women to be able to vote, but we're still trying to defend our reproductive rights, there are still countries where fgm is still practiced, and child brides are being married off to older men. Furthermore, equal pay is still not the norm. If women are outspoken, they're insulted and talked down to by people, both men and women, who think they would be demure and not act in such a masculine manner. If women don't speak up, they're told to not be so shy and stand up for themselves. Gender equality still has a long way to go, but with everyone acting in solidarity, men and women alike, such as Emma Stone's cast mates, it would hopefully be a more productive and positive partnership resulting in a fairer world for women and girls.
